Terms of use
These terms cover the invite-only test of Values. Full terms will replace them before Values opens to everyone, and we’ll tell you in the app when they do.
Values is provided by Values App Pty Ltd, an Australian company (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using Values, you agree to these terms, our privacy policy and our house rules.
1. Who can use Values
- You must be 18 or older.
- Use your real name. One account per person, and don’t pretend to be someone else.
- You’re responsible for your account and for what happens on it. Tell us straight away at support@valuesapp.social if you think someone else has accessed it.
2. The house rules
Values works because people come to understand, not to win. When you use Values, you agree to:
- Seek to understand. Before you reply, ask questions and put their view in your own words.
- Disagree freely. Challenge ideas, beliefs and each other’s views. Hard questions are welcome.
- Value every person. Challenge ideas, never a person’s dignity, and never say a person or group shouldn’t exist.
- No threats. Any threat of violence or death means removal from Values.
- Honour what’s shared. Treat private messages, personal details and photos as private. Share them only with the person’s permission.
3. Never allowed
- Pornography or sexual content.
- Violence or gore shared to shock or glorify it.
- Anything that sexualises or endangers children.
- Promoting suicide, self-harm or eating disorders.
- Terrorism or violent extremism.
- Selling drugs, weapons or other illegal goods.
- Spam, scams, fake accounts or pretending to be someone else.
- Posting other people’s work as your own.
- Harmful false information, like fake health cures.
- Anything else that’s against the law.
4. What you post
- You own what you post. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display and share it, only so we can run Values and show it to the people you chose. The licence ends when you delete it, apart from copies others have already reshared or that remain briefly in backups.
- Only post things you have the right to share.
- You’re responsible for what you post. Others’ posts are theirs, not ours, and don’t reflect the views of Values App Pty Ltd.
5. Keeping Values safe
- Anyone can report a post, and can block or mute anyone.
- We may remove anything that breaks these terms, pause an account for a time, or close it. Where it’s safe and practical, we’ll tell you why.
- If you think we got a decision wrong, email support@valuesapp.social and a person will look at it again.
- We may report illegal content to the police or the eSafety Commissioner, and will always report anything that harms or endangers a child.
6. The test
- Values is still being built. Features will change, some will appear and disappear, and things may break or be unavailable at times.
- Paid memberships are not charged during the test. If that changes, we’ll ask you first and nothing will be charged without your agreement.
- Your feedback helps shape Values. If you send us ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
7. Leaving
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Settings → Delete your account). We may end the test, or your access, at any time; if we close Values, we’ll give you a reasonable chance to download your information first.
8. Our responsibility
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that can’t be excluded. Otherwise, during the test Values is provided “as is”, and to the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for what other people post or do.
9. Changes and the law
We may update these terms. If a change is important, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
